Hi there! Welcome to my portfolio. My name is John Wamsley and I am a Toronto-based social media producer, community manager, and graphic designer. I have received my Social Media Marketing Certificate from George Brown College Continuing Education and have worked for TIFF, Pride Toronto, Paprika Festival, Boat Rocker Media, and several independent Toronto theatre collectives. Below is a select set of works I'm most proud of. Click the images below for more!
Paprika Festival (2018 - 2019)
As the Paprika Festival Communications Manager, I designed original digital and print media assets and managed online communications: participant call for submissions, social media postings, newsletters & website updates. Working alongside the Artistic Producer and General Manager, I collaborated on devising online marketing strategies, writing press releases, and Festival operations. I was also responsible for ensuring appropriate sponsor recognition and tracking assets from various stakeholders.

Boat Rocker Media (2017 - 2018)
With Boat Rocker Media, I was able to work on television shows like "The Next Step" and "Ollie, the Boy Who Became What He Ate." This gave me the opportunity to create meaningful online relationships with diverse audiences - developing and sustaining an online voice that excited and resonated with an already established fanbase. I was also tasked with designing aesthetically pleasing and profitable marketing content for distribution on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube to 300,000+ audience internationally. Below are select episode previews I built for the fifth season of "The Next Step".

Theatre Born Between (2018 - 2019)
Theatre Born Between is a Toronto-based theatre company created by myself and Bryn Kennedy. On top of co-producing these shows, I was tasked with developing marketing strategies, creating producing and marketing budgets, and building the promotional materials for each project using the show's aesthetic and the director's vision as guideposts.

Freelance and Independent Projects (2017 - Present)
"Selections from Rosamund Small's Vitals" Marketing Materials
This workshop production of "Vitals" by Rosamund Small was original presented in the 2018 Paprika Festival. The play focuses on the day-to-day traumas of a Toronto paramedic. Using imagery inspired by x-rays, I wanted to create a graphic that reflected the central character's inner life. |
"A Bear Awake in Winter" Student Study Guide
I worked on this school study guide with director and writer Ali Joy Richardson, focusing on making the information accessible to a wide range of student learning styles while also remaining aesthetically consistent with the world of the show. |
"This Day in Sports" Podcast Cover Art
Working with co-host Mike Shara, I created this cover art for his podcast, This Day in Sports: an irreverent look at one day in sports history, hosted by three men who think they're funnier than they are and probably know less than they think. |
